In the eyes of many, social media marketing (unfortunately) remains the proverbial ugly duckling compared to other areas of internet marketing such as web design, paid search and search engine optimization. Those that still espouse this opinion generally don’t understand the HOW, the WHAT and most importantly, the WHY of social media.
There are several common objections that we see when it comes to social media… from a marketing perspective:
- I don’t know what type of content I’m supposed to publish to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc…
- I don’t have the time and/or expertise to come up with content
- How and why are people going to follow me or Like me?
- And most importantly… I don’t see how it contributes to my bottom line

Blogging
You’ve probably heard the expression before “Content Is King”. Today, in internet marketing, this age-old phrase most definitely rings true. Acquiring, or more aptly put, earning, quality in-bound links is an absolutely crucial part of SEO, and you earn these links largely by producing great content, and blogs are all about great content. This is why a conversation on SEO is not complete without talking about blogging.
For many businesses, blogging is ultimately the hub of their social media marketing. Your blog is the home on the web for content like articles, infographics and videos that you publish. Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc… are your vehicles for promoting this content.
Blogging inherently falls under the social media umbrella, but it also relates directly to both on-page SEO & off-page SEO.
From an ‘on-page’ SEO standpoint, a blog post consisting of original and engaging content represents another page on your website that can be used to target specific search terms, and another page that search engines can index that can bring more traffic to your site. From an ‘off-page’ SEO standpoint, a well-written, and properly-promoted blog post can be the reason that another site decides to link to your site, thus aiding your link building efforts.
